Best fish 'n chips in town? Poppies!

Poppies is a very vintage-inspired fish 'n chips place, with two restaurants in London (Spitafields and Camden) and another stall opening soon in Camden market. What can I say? As always, the dishes are huge, with a whole fish with crispy fries. You can have a lot of fried or grilled fish, but we went on a classic (with a little variation): I got the cod and Alessio the haddock. I actually thought that the cod would have been tastier, but I was wrong. Haddock is better! Prices are fair, £12 for a regular fish (whole one) with chips and tartare sauce. I really enjoyed it, to be honest Alessio not that much. Don't ask me why.

Four Seasons - not the hotel.

What about chinese food here in London? Recentely I've decided that I have absolutely let Alessio try the Beijing duck, so I was looking for the best place where to go. After reading some reviews, I chose the Four Seasons. We had to wait for almost 20 minutes to get a table. From the windows you can see the crispy ducks waiting to be eaten! We ordered half duck and some 鱼香茄子, translated into a debatable "braised aubergines with minced meat". They brought us the crispy duck instead of the Beijing one - my fault, I was so hungry that I wasn't really listening to the waiter. It was delicious anyway, served with pancakes (aka very thin rice round bread). The aubergines were amazing. Half duck is enough for 2-3 people, and the aubergines for two. My advice is always to get one dish each, or, if you are really hungry, three dishes for two people. In China they put everything in the centre of the table and every one takes what he wants. It's the best way to enjoy different dishes at once! We spent about £35. The service is not great, but it's just the Chinese way to deal with customers. There are three restaurants in London, we have been to the one in Chinatown.

Let's start with Italian. Sartori, wow.

As you can imagine by the title of this post, Sartori is an amazing Italian pizzeria (pizza place) in next to Leicester Square tube station. The most expensive pizza here is about £13 (plus a 12.5% of service charge), and obviously that's my favourite. It's called Bufalina, so it means that it has buffalo mozzarella cheese instead of the normal mozzarella cheese. Delicious. I have already been here twice, they also have a wide range of Italian food, but I've never tried it. The pizza here is the authentic one, better than most pizzerias around Italy. Expect to spend about £20 for a pizza and a soft drink. Is it worth it? Of course it is. We also tried the dessert, they are really nice but a little bit too pricy. Better avoid them and go for an ice cream at Amorino's! The only annoying thing is the service. As they were very busy last time, the waiter was making pressure for us to leave the table as soon as possible. Quite annoying, especially because we were a group of friends who wanted to hang out a bit.

I'm a foodaholic.

Just a quick update. I don't really have that much time to write, but I will try my best. I'm eating out quite a lot, as this is the only activity Alessio and I really enjoy. And in london you can find really good places where to go. As you all know, food here is quite expensive if you convert the price into euros, but with a pouds-salary it's not too bad. So, from now on, expect tons of restaurant reviews! Also, sometimes I take pictures with my phone, so they are not that great. Waiting for my parents to get me a new one!

Wandering around. Day 4.

25/01/2015 - We decided to go up to the tower in the Old Square even if it wasn't a sunny day. The ticket was about 100 CZK for adults and 50 CZK for students, with a free lift inside the tower. The view from the top was stunning. Then we went into a court behind the cathedral just to have a look, followed by a walk in the jewish part of the city (without entering the sites). We ate a nice fish and chips at Cafè Mistral, then I went shopping in Venceslao Square. This day is over as well, coming back tomorrow.

Doing the exact same things I've done last time. Day 3.

24/01/2015 - Today we woke up pretty early and we take the tram till Café Louvre (for all the information please see the other posts here and here), where we ate a nice breakfast. I got some homemade pancakes (I was so excites to come back in Prague first of all to eat this pancakes again) and a delicious strawberry and orange fresh pressed juice. Then we took th tram again till the castle and we visited it. This time I got the photo permission for 50 CZK to take pictures inside the castle. After the visit we went to the Strahov monastery to have a look at the library (photo permission here as well, 50 CZK)and, on the way downhill we found some trdelnik shops. Here trdelnik were so good, a huge one for 50 CZK. Then we stopped at Starbuck in Mala Strana and came back to our apartment, where we ate a nice pasta with butter. After dinner we had a walk along the river till Charles' Bridge and the old square.
